Add a new filesystem – no LVM

  1. Search for your new disk ls -l /dev/sd*
  2. Create the partition fdisk /dev/sdl (New, Primary, 1 partition number, first cylinder, last cylinder, Write)
  3. Check for your new partition ls -l /dev/sd*
  4. Create the filesystem mkfs.ext3 -L /userdata /dev/sdc1
  5. Create the mount point mkdir /userdata
  6. Mount the filesystem mount /dev/sdc1 /userdata
  7. To auto-mount the filesystem, add an entry to /etc/fstab
    /dev/sdc1  /userdata  ext3  defaults  1  2
    or
    LABEL=/userdata /userdata  ext3  defaults  1  2
